Celebrating the Monarch Butterfly While Comparing Global Migration

South Shore Cultural Center will host the Monarch Festival on Saturday, August 17th, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. This event is sponsored by Faith in Place, a non profit organization and the South Shore Advisory Council. The Monarch butterfly, interestingly enough, shares a similar migration pattern as communities of color. This festival engages participants in understanding and learning more about the Monarch butterfly but also creates a forum to discuss global migration patterns. As Princess Harris, sustainable food and land use coordinator for Faith in Place says, "Everyone has a migration story"!

Join us at the beautiful and historic South Shore Cultural Center for a free family fun day highlighting the plight of the Monarch Butterfly and its similarities to the migration of Latin and Black communities! Learn about how you can help the Monarch butterfly – an important pollinator and the state insect of Illinois.
